Secretary of State for the Colonies My respectful application that
I may
receive arrears of pay from the 14 October 1854 to the
9th February 1858.
The grounds of my application are that on the expiry of the eighteen Month's leave
originally granted to Mr. Bay and which
took place
on or about the 1st
October 1854, I was
granted twelve months additional leave, but without
pay,
that during that time I did the duties of his office drawing half Mr. Bay's pay viz £575, and half my own viz
£175 making in the whole £550; that Mr. Bay not having
since the 1st October 1854, drawn
any Salary, I am entitled ~ (having done the duties, and having
since been confirmed
in the appointment) to the full salary attached to the
office
at that time viz £750 per
annum; but inasmuch as
I have already
drawn
£530 per
annum, I can only look for
arrears at the rate of £200 per
annum so as
to make
up
the full pay of £750 above
mentioned.
